STL Weekend Photo Dump

Friday, March 18, 2016

This past weekend I was with most of my fam in St. Louis for my cousin's 50s housewife themed wedding shower, my dad's birthday, and my cousin's daughter Mollie's 10th birthday fiesta!  It is always so nice to see my family and who doesn't love dressing up for a themed party!

Can you tell we all love some JM time?

The best way to drink a cold beer

How fun are these dresses and glasses? We had so much fun at the shower!
Dad's birthday was the same day as the shower! It was such a treat to see him on his birthday!

7QT: books, books, and books

Hey you! Linking up with Kelly today for 7QT!  I have had this same post sitting in my drafts forever and for some reason every time Friday rolls around I don't have access to my computer or the babies keep me extra busy.

The longer the draft sits the longer my list is getting so today it might be 9ish takes!  I have been reading up a storm lately...which has been absolutely wonderful.  When I get on a reading kick, I am so much happier and so much more relaxed than when I spend my evenings on social media or letting my brain work on over drive getting incredibly stressed out...which happened the other night! ....what on earth was I thinking when I planned a wedding in October (the middle of the school year) in a city no one in my family lives in including my fiancĂ© and myself....

My favorite books lately include everything by Elin Hilderbrand and Liane Moriarty (and JoJo Moyes of course).  I just realized this month that Liane Moriarty had almost three more books published than what I had originally thought.  I read them back to back immediately!  All of the books below...especially if you love chic lit...I highly recommend!

1. The Friends We Keep by Susan Mallery is such a feel good beach read!

2. The Hypnotist's Love Story by Liane Moriarty kept me on the edge of my seat!  I loved the suspense and the feel good aspects.

3. The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty was a favorite of mine because I absolutely love any and all books that portray an island or Nantucket-esque lifestyle.  It is a beach read that actually transports me to a vacation spot as I read.  Which is second best to an actual vacation, or at least laying out by the pool!

4. Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty (see, I really was on a Liane kick) swallowed me up immediately!  Her style of writing and the added suspense intertwined with love stories and stories of motherhood just completely enthraw me.  A friend of mine asked me with book she needed to read first by this author and I couldn't pick one.  Read them all!

5. The Sound of Glass by Karen White was so intense that it was hard for me to read.  I love a good, thrilling story but there are certain topics that are hard for me to stomach.  The Sound of Glass has a lot of domestic abuse and allusions to domestic abuse in the story which made me incredibly emotionally invested...but also made it incredibly hard to sleep.

6. Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff was an interesting read for my because I don't typically read books that can't be found in the Target best sellers section any more, but my new book club is keeping me in check with pushing me outside of my little reading box.  I didn't read the back of this book before starting it which definitely threw me off...but I do definitely recommend it for an enticing read!

7. Pretending to Dance by Diane Chamberlain was a loner from my mom this past weekend and it was exactly the kind of book I needed for my flight back to DC!  It was heart felt and alluded to a horrible ending (which made me nervous) and then made the happy ending so much more meaningful to me!  (no spoilers...I promise)!

And as one last edition to my 7 takes....if you are missing Christmas and love her other books, I highly recommend Elin Hilderbrand's Winter Street and the sequel Winter Stroll...I can't wait for the third book in the series to come out!

Happy Reading!

Spring Break Weekend Wrap Up

Sunday, March 6, 2016

I am so sad to see this weekend go!  Ryan is officially on spring break and since this week Ryan has a lot of work to do and next weekend I will be out of town, we filled this weekend with a week's worth of spring break fun!  Fun for us lately is just pure quality time.  It doesn't matter what we are doing, but it is just so nice to do stuff together.

On Friday night, Ryan had plans with a friend and I was able to catch up on some chores around the house and just relax.

On Saturday, I spent most of my morning at the Maryland DMV...I had heard that the DMV was crazy, but it was so much worse than I thought.  I missed the ball in terms of planning and left our house at 6am to drive to a place that ended up only doing emissions I drove straight to another DMV (in the opposite direction).  I got there at 7 (it opened at 8:30) and I was the third person in line outside of the building!  It was absolutely insane.  Luckily, I had a new book and even though I had the wrong letters for proof of address, the woman working looked past it!  The process was incredibly uneventful until the woman asked me if my name really was Megan Isom, if that was real my birthday, and if for any reason I would have ever had my SSN changed.  She literally asked me so many times that I started to that really my name?  Is this how people find out about secret adoptions???  I was mildly panicking and had a hard block on my license renewal and the supervisor had to remove the block and we had to complete the process all over again?  And then they didn't tell me why the block was there?  Only mildly freaking out still!  But...after all of that...I am now an official Maryland resident!

After the DMV, Ryan and I went to Five Guys and Target for grocery shopping and literally, that is my absolute favorite Saturday couple activity.  Then I babysat the babies that I nanny while their parents went out to celebrate their anniversary.  They were particularly adorable!

Today, we went to Tysons Corner to see Deadpool and walk around the mall.  We had a blast...we got dippin dots from a crane machine, macaroons, and just had a great time exploring the massive mall.  We lunch at CPK (I was craving a suburban-nonDC day and it was the perfect choice).  When we got home, we watched the Pens game (who completely dominated 6-1) and for dinner made these Salsa Verde Chicken Tacos.  They are highly recommended!  Only four ingredients and they taste better than regular tacos (that is saying a lot because I LOVE tacos)!

I hope you guys had a great weekend, too!  Now I am just wishing away this week because it's family time in STL next weekend!

Love and tacos :)
